Bauertology: 2/26/24

I usually write a whole bunch of stuff up in this section as a sort of preview to the new bracket and seed list below, but today’s write-up is surprisingly brief.

Why? Because there isn’t that much changing anymore.

Yep, we’ve finally hit that time in the season where sweeping changes are few and far between. Data is getting to a point where enough games have been played that numbers are really starting to solidify. The tournament picture is coming into focus.

Even with an always-wild Saturday slate trying its best to shake things up, it all remains pretty sturdy. Only a handful of noticeable changes in the bracket, namely North Carolina retaking the final 1 seed as a result of their slog-it-out win at Virginia bumping their résumé metrics back ahead of Arizona, Florida Atlantic falling two seed lines with another odd AAC struggle against Memphis alongside 2023 non-conference victories (Texas A&M, Butler) that are starting to sour, and Wake Forest in over Utah as my at-large field’s only replacement, following the Demon Deacons finally adding a marquee win to their résumé in the form of Duke, while the Utes floundered badly at Colorado.

With that single change, I actually feel really confident about which 68 teams are in and which teams are out right now—probably the best I’ve felt all year. Seeding is a different story, but there’s still time to work that out.

But not a whole lot of time left! We’re officially under three weeks away from the big day. Things are happening, folks! Check out the Bauertology projection for Monday, Feb. 26, and let’s have a fun homestretch.
