Can you taste it? March is almost here.
The month of madness itself is only four days away. But the madness will actually be coming back into our lives a little sooner, as the first conference tournament kicks off on Monday, Feb. 27. Yep, postseason basketball is only two nights’ sleep away. I don’t know if I can stay awake that long…
Let’s celebrate by kicking off this fantastic Saturday slate with a new Bauertology! Except there’s not much to get excited about with this bracket; it’s almost exactly the same as Wednesday’s projection—down the exact same 68 teams included—except for a couple seed line switches here and there.
So, to spice things up, how about a little NITology?
In addition to my NCAA Tournament projection, I’m including my best guess as to what the NIT field might look like if it were selected today. Admittedly, I’m quite rusty at NIT bracketology, as I haven’t had the free time to attempt any NIT brackets in almost two years, and this is my first NIT projection since we learned about the tournament’s abrupt seeding rule changes last year that allow more flexibility for location in the typical 5 to 8 seed range. So if this NIT projection looks a little off the mark, it very well could be—just trying to get back to the hang of it!
Continuity-wise, it also may not make a whole lot of sense to put an NCAA and NIT bracket next to each other without ASUN No. 1 seed Kennesaw State in either, but that will change in due time, as conference tournament No. 1 seeds fall and cement their spot in the second-level tourney or rise to the occasion and earn their NCAAT auto-bid.
For now, just enjoy these projections, and hype yourself up for the best month of the year!
